The New Look

Old Ups & Downs

Ups & Downs got a makeover.

The original version, created in iWeb, was attractive and easy to use.

But its commenting system was annoying. The software wouldn’t notify me when comments were posted and I couldn’t edit the comments: I could either approve them or delete them.

Not that I’m into editing comments, but once or twice I heard from the author of a comment who wanted to fix a typo and I couldn’t.

I also wanted more control over the look & feel of the website. Now I have limitless power. :-)

In moving to new software — WordPress — I’m taking much more control of the design of the site and also relocating it to my own server.

I’m still working at migrating the old blog to this one. As of the moment I’m typing this, I’ve moved three photo galleries — including the Baylands Battle of the Bay gallery. The gallery software has one nasty quirk: as I publish, it sometimes shuffles the photos in seemingly random order. This happened to the BBOB gallery. I’ll try to fix it later. The other galleries are fine so far.

Still to Come: more photo galleries and video pages. And I’ve got a slew of photos from the past couple of weeks that I want to add to the newest photo gallery.

I’m going to rewire various old pages so they automatically kick over to the new site, but I’m sure I’ll continue to find old-style URLs for at least a couple of days.

Please look around and feel free to comment on features you like and don’t like. If you see a bug — a broken link, a typo, a malfunction — please leave a comment.

WordPress is open source and it’s quite extensible, so I can try to implement your requests.

Thanks for your interest in this site.

Hey it recognized me - yay!

I am liking it more and more…

I am thinking if it’s popular (Wordpress) and being that it is open source more plugins will be created for adding images and editing of own comments?

    Or is that not possible?

    Cheers!

    And congrats

    Gary

It does have plug-ins and various add-ons, but so far nothing in the way of adding images to comments.

    Thanks.

Your dog gets prominent mention in your new bio and not your long-suffering wife? Jeesh… How about “walking my great dane Sadie and annoying my wife.”? Or are you using the blog to troll for younger babes and would prefer to keep your marital status a secret?

Be careful what you wish for, Suzette…

…and everyone knows one of the best ways to troll for young babes is to slap up a site primarily about RC toys. It’s just common sense that you show off your macho with either a Corvette or a Slow Stick.

Hmm. Is that kind of double entendre allowed? Where does a Mini Mag fit in?

Like the site better. Less cheezwhiz, but more readable. I do kind of miss the CSS randomly plunking stuff on top of other stuff, though. It had a kind of picasso feel at times.
